LAST MINUTE OPEN CALL – DEADLINE AUGUST 1st FOR COLLABORATION ART RESIDENCY – Riga, Latvia, 5-25.08.2024.

Since one of previously selected artists canceled participation, You can become a member of a temporary artist group, if you are a professional artist interested in trying out unusual conditions – experiencing collaborative residency located in the non-governmental cultural hub (more then 100 studios in former university building). 3 weeks together (in separate rooms) with another 4 selected international artists, exploration of the local context and creation of new ideas for your new art works through the moderated process of collaboration.

We have launche the first open call for this residency in 2023 through ARTE LAGUNA PRIZE 18th edition. We received 257 applications from all over the world! It has been very excited, but also heart breaking process to chose one, who will get the Arte Laguna Prize and will be able to take part in the residency without participation and accommodation fee. The winner is artist Jingyi Wang from Beijing, China, currently based in Bergen, Norway. We have invited to take part also few other our favorite Arte Laguna Prize 18th edition applicants and three of them have accepted our invitation. Unfortunately one of them canceled participation. So we still can add one artist Please send us your CV and motivation letter to info@blackholes.lv if you would like to join the residency. Time period of this residency is August 5-25, 2024. Residents will have a possibility also to visit the coast line of the Baltic Sea between Liepāja and Pāvilosta.

 

The participation fee is 300 EUR + 300 EUR for accommodation. Artists are responsible for their travel expenses. There will be a dedicated workspace and a common kitchen for family-style cooking of meals. It is a tradition in Black Hole residencies to share each culture through food and to get to know each other as a person.

The aim of ‘’The Black Hole’’ residency is to foster creative freedom, explore local context and encourage collaboration and interdisciplinary experiments between participants. In 3 weeks artists will get to know each other and the environment of residency. There will be workshops with experienced professionals from various fields offering participants methods and inspiration on how to approach their work and explore beyond the usual. Once a week there will be a presentation within a small group of people on what the artists have come up with so far. In conclusion of the residency participants of the residency will have to share ideas developed during the residency to a public in their chosen way – exhibition, presentation, performance, interdisciplinary event or other form.
